Pros & cons

What we like

  • Trading since 2015 — the longest unbroken payout record in the industry
  • Bought the broker OANDA in 2026, which few competitors could finance
  • No minimum trading days and no time limit on either phase
  • Fee refunded with your first payout
  • Free retry if you hit the target but miss another objective

What to watch

  • 80% base split is below what most newer firms offer
  • Among the most expensive fees per dollar of allocation
  • Standard accounts block news trading and weekend holding
  • No longer accepts traders resident in the United States

The rules in full

The clauses that decide whether you keep the account. Quoted from FTMO's own terms — check the current version before you trade.

8 rules here break the account

Breaking one of these fails the evaluation or voids a payout outright.

General

  • No time limit and no minimum trading days

Neither phase expires, and there is no requirement to trade a set number of days. You can pass in a week or take a year.

Risk & drawdown

  • Static drawdown of 10%

    Breaks the account

Loss limit is fixed against the starting balance for the whole evaluation. Breaching it ends the account immediately, whether or not the position later recovers.

  • Daily loss limit of 5%

    Breaks the account

Measured from the balance at the daily reset. Floating losses on open positions count toward it the moment they occur, not when the trade is closed.

Trading style

  • No trading around high-impact news

    Breaks the account

Positions may not be opened or closed within a few minutes either side of a red-folder release. Trades that breach the filter are removed from your result and can void a payout.

  • Swing accounts remove the news and weekend restrictions

The standard account blocks trading around high-impact news and holding over the weekend. The Swing variant allows both, at lower leverage. It is a different product, not a setting you can change later.

  • Expert advisors are allowed

Automated strategies may be used, provided they do not exploit latency, pricing errors or the demo feed.

  • All positions must be closed before the weekend

    Watch out

Anything still open at the Friday close is flattened by the risk desk, and the resulting loss counts against you.

Instruments

  • Crypto trades at reduced leverage of 1:2

Crypto is available outside market hours, but at a fraction of the leverage offered on FX and it is excluded from any news-trading exemption.

  • Maximum leverage of 1:100

This is the headline figure and applies to FX. Indices, commodities and crypto are each capped lower — see the instruments table for the class you trade.

Payouts

  • Payouts every 14 days

The cycle runs from your last approved request, not from the calendar month. A request made early resets the clock rather than bringing the next one forward.

  • First payout after 14 days

    Watch out

Counted from the day the funded account is issued. Completed KYC is required before the first request is released.

  • A rule breach voids the payout attached to it

    Breaks the account

Requests are reviewed against the trading rules before release. A confirmed breach voids that payout, and repeat breaches close the account.

  • The fee comes back with your first payout

The evaluation fee is refunded alongside your first withdrawal from the funded account, which makes the real cost of passing zero.

Account management

  • One funded account per trader

    Breaks the account

Accounts linked by identity documents, payment method, IP address or trading pattern are treated as one. Undisclosed duplicates are closed and their profit forfeited.

  • The account may not be shared or managed by anyone else

    Breaks the account

You must trade the account yourself. Handing credentials to a third party, including an account manager, ends the arrangement.

Prohibited practices

  • High-frequency and latency arbitrage are prohibited

    Breaks the account

Strategies that depend on execution speed, price-feed delay or tick scalping are treated as exploiting the platform rather than trading it.

  • Copy trading between accounts is not allowed

    Breaks the account

Mirroring trades across accounts, your own included, is grounds for closure of every linked account.

  • Martingale and grid strategies are prohibited

    Watch out

Doubling into a losing position, or layering a grid without a defined stop, counts as a prohibited risk strategy.

About FTMO

FTMO started in Prague in 2015 and effectively invented the modern evaluation model: pay a fee, hit a profit target inside a loss limit, get a funded account. Almost every firm on this site is a variation on that idea. What separates FTMO now is not its terms — plenty of firms offer a bigger split or a looser drawdown — but its balance sheet and its age. It has paid traders through several industry collapses, and in 2026 it completed the purchase of the broker OANDA, which is not a transaction a thinly capitalised company completes. The trade-offs are real. The 80% base split is below the market, the fees are among the highest, and standard accounts restrict both news trading and weekend holding unless you buy the Swing variant. FTMO is the conservative choice, and it is priced like one.

Leadership

Otakar Šuffner

Co-founder & CEO

Co-founded FTMO in Prague in 2015 with Marek Vašíček, after the pair concluded that their own trading was limited by capital rather than by edge. Holds a degree in banking and insurance and a master's in economics from the University of Economics, Prague.

A named, findable person is one of the few cheap signals that a firm is a real company.

FTMO FAQ

It depends what you are buying. If you want the lowest cost per dollar of allocation, no — FundingPips and Goat Funded Trader are less than half the price. If you want the firm most likely to still be paying in three years, FTMO has the longest record and the deepest balance sheet of anyone here.
Not on a standard account. You cannot open or close a position within two minutes either side of a high-impact release. The Swing variant removes that restriction and also allows weekend holding, but offers lower leverage.
No. FTMO stopped accepting traders resident in the United States and does not currently offer a route back in.
The cycle is every 14 days from your last approved request. Once approved, FTMO processes in one to two business days and does not charge a withdrawal fee.
